April Update

Happy April from everyone here at Re-Member!

As the weather (slowly) begins to warm we have started to transition from our winter heating work to our summer construction projects. Our early season volunteers have been an awesome boost of energy and productivity – cutting, splitting and delivering firewood, building and delivering beds and prepping our Feather II gardens for the coming planting season – we are so grateful to everyone who has helped us do what we do to support the community over the past several weeks!

Our wood-splitting crew will soon make their 700th delivery of the season. An incredible accomplishment, but also a stark reminder of the tremendous need that exists here on Pine Ridge. In addition to these loads of wood, we have been able to assist more than 350 households this winter with home heating payments. As you might imagine, not knowing how you are going to keep your home and your family warm causes a great deal of stress and fear. The work we do goes a long way to offer some peace of mind and make things a little more comfortable during the most challenging part of the year.

Soon we will be back building ramps and deck-and-step sets, installing outhouses and skirting trailers. Our request list remains long. Projects are requested nearly as frequently as they are completed. The task at hand is not an easy one, and that is why we are thrilled to have the support of such an incredible community of volunteers and donors.

There is still plenty of availability throughout the summer, so check out our 2025 trip calendarand sign up for volunteer trip with Re-Member today.  This work is important, and we cannot do what we do without you!

Save the date: “Growing Tuesday” is just around the corner:

Growing Tuesday is Re-Member’s annual Spring fundraiser that supports our gardening efforts at Feather II. This growing extension of our work creates access to fresh, nutritious produce for folks here on the reservation. Pine Ridge is in a food desert. It is a place where produce, often shipped over long distances, tends to costly and lacking in quality. Our gardens at Feather II are helping to address this issue and redefine what “can be” here on Pine Ridge. Last year we grew nearly 2,000lbs of produce and we hope to nearly double that number in 2025. That’s nearly two tons of produce!

We need your support to make this ambitious goal a reality. This year, “Growing Tuesday” will be May 6!

We are beyond excited to roll out our new Veggie Wagon, which will allow us to share the bounties from our gardens, as well as hot meals, further around the reservation. We have big plans and Feather II, and we can’t wait for the growing season to get started.
